ABOUT FLORA AND FLORØ
Flora is a modern city society, representing Sogn og Fjordane's oldest and Norway's most western city. Despite constant changes, the city Florø has managed to maintain its special features, appearing as a busy and charming city centre. Florø was established in 1860 as a natural choice when the demand for a city in the fishing-region of Kinn was getting stronger and stronger. Florø is without saying well worth a visit as it was selected the most pleasant city to live in by the National Radio Broadcasting Channel 2 twice in a row. In 1998 the city received another price, as it was named the "Environmental city" by the Norwegian Minister of the Environment for its caring efforts regarding the environment. The small-town atmosphere you will experience in Florø is very much alive and original with a charming high street and a good selection of shops.
"From coast to glacier" has become Flora's slogan. The municipality reaches from the skerries of the North Sea to the Ålfot Glacier, and along the way you will find rushing rivers, snow-clad summits and lonely lakes ? all you could wish for within short distances. The coast is a world in itself with a multitude of islands of all sizes. Most of them are inhabited and therefore have daily boat services. The majority of summer tourists come here and spend their days fishing, taking boat trips, swimming and from time to time diving.
You can travel to Flora in several ways. The Coastal Express Steamer calls at Florø daily, the express boats of Norled likewise. The airline Wiederøe's Flyveselskap operate their western division from Florø and offer several daily non-stop flights from Oslo and Bergen. There are also express bus services from Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Ålesund.
