The travel to the fjord coast is an experience itself, no matter what transportation you use. In the text below you will find route suggestions by car from Bergen, Oslo and Ålesund.
BERGEN
The most common way from Bergen to the region is to follow the E39 north to the ferry Oppedal-Lavik. If you want a different route with less traffic and more open landscape we recommend to drive north along the coast. Take off in Knarvik and drive towards Lindås. Follow the road till you get to the ferry that combines Leirvåg-Sløvåg. For ferry routes, check out kringom.no
OSLO
You have several roads that you can choose between from Oslo to the region. The most common one is to drive through Hemsedal and Lærdal, or through Hamar, Lom and Stryn. If you are driving in the summer you can take the road over the Sognemountain or the old Strynsmountain. These are both national touristroads.
For more information about roads and roadcondition, check out the website for the Norwegian public roads or call 175.
ÅLESUND
The most common way from Ålesund is through Nordfjordeid. From here you have two choices: With the ferry that combines Isane-Stårheim, or to follow E39 to the ferry Lote-Anda and then to drive through Skei.
