The Fjord Coast is known for its fantastic diving conditions and large variety of subaquatic species, exciting diving environments and many shipwrecks to explore. Some of the most interesting shipwrecks from WW2 are located in the region and visited by divers from all over the world. Gulen Dive Resort is one of Norway’s best diving resorts and will take you on exciting diving trips along the coast.
Diving in Bremanger and Flora is also very exiting with several shipwrecks from the WW2 and a rich marine life under the surface of the sea.
Norway’s best wreck diving
By the mouth of the Sognefjorden several of the best shipwrecks in Norway are located. Many of them went down during the WW2 and have an intriguing history. The German cargo ship ”DS Frankenwald” is voted to Norway’s best wreck for diving. The ship lies straight on its keel on the sand, 40- 45 metres deep. Gulen Dive Resort close to the Sognefjord offers wreck dives on more than 20 wrecks in the area.
Periphylla
Periphylla is a deep-sea jellyfish found all over the world, except in the Arctic. Usually they are spread out, however i Gulen you can see hundreds of them at the same time. In an annual event the divers can experience a very special dive; in the middle of winter, in the middle of the night, in the middle of the fjord. The jellyfish is seldom observed during the day, whilst at night time in January/February is possible to see hundreds simultaneously. Gulen Dive Resort is the only dive resort in the world offering this experience.
Nudibranch Safari
Visitors from all over Europe come to Gulen every year in March to join the Nudibranch Safari. Through the event, where Norwegian and International scientists are involved, over 60 different species are identified at Gulen Dive Resort. This more than 70% of all species identified in Norwegian waters. Nudibranch is a very popular motive for underwater photographing. During the event the participants will learn about underwater photographing, biology, behaviour and other aspects about perhaps the most beautiful creatures in the sea.
