A visit to the untamed and beautiful bay of Vetvika is truly an experience out of the ordinary! The white sandy beach is surrounded by high mountains and clear blue water. You can reach the road-free beach by hiking over Steinfjellet or by boat.
Grading: Demanding. Suitable for experienced walkers with good stamina and good equipment.
Duration: 8-9 hrs
Length: 15,6 km (round trip)
Altitude: 574 Above sea level
Season: May - October
The hike starts from the parking lot at Svarstad in Bremanger. Follow the gravel road to the television transmitter on the top of Steinfjellet. After approximately 2 km you’ll reach a height of 420 meters. The marked path begins here, close to the only private cabin on the road. The route is clearly waymarked at intervals sufficiently short so you can see from one waymark to the next. Follow the marked trail north. After just under 1 km, the trail divides. It is then most common to turn left and follow the marked trail for 1, 5 km until one reaches the edge and can look down to Vetvika. The walk down the steep slopes to Vetvika can be demanding, but suitable for those with average physical shape and good shoes. It is possible to stay overnight in Vetvika in a tent and return the day after.
We recommend going on a guided tour to Vetvika together with the experienced guides from Norway Adventures. Please contact Norway Adventures for more information.
