The region has an exciting cultural life with small and large festivals and events. Here are some of the highlights!
In mid June every year you can experience the world’s longest herring table in Florø. The town was founded in 1860 due to the rich herring fisheries in the area. Different herring dishes are made especially for this event and are served to everybody free of charge! How about some banana herring, fruit herring or yoghurt herring?
The herring table is a part of the ”Himmel & Hav” coastal festival, which also includes salmon day, concerts and a historical play at the island of Kinn - Kinnaspelet. As far west as you can go, where the sky meets the sea, you will find an old church from the 11th century. Every third weekend in June there is an outdoor theatre in Norwegian with 150 actors performing a pageant about love, faith and hope. History and legends form the background and the natural and sheltered slopes behind the church at the foot of an imposing cliff - together with a changing sea and sky offer you a unique and wonderful atmosphere, a setting you have never experienced in any theatrical performance.
Førde Traditional and World Music Festival is the leading multicultural music event in Norway. The festival is arranged annually in the beginning of July. The Festival presents ethnic music from all over the world, and has a varied program of concerts, courses and exhibitions.
The outdoor adventure festival ”Våt Moro” takes place in July in Florø every year. The festival offers a large range of activities and ”the table is set” for spectacular experiences in and around Norway’s westernmost town; Florø. The festival also focuses on family events and arranges evening events such as “after sea”.
